Friend from Michigan just picked up a brand new, 2018 BMW R nineT Urban G/S on a whim while visiting us in eastern PA. Unfortunately it doesn’t have saddle bags or a windscreen, but we at least fixed the cargo probl em:

Man that bike looks and sounds so cool.

That's a nice find. Is your friend riding it back to Michigan? That's a decent hike. I just got back to eastern PA an hour ago after a 15 hour drive from Indiana.

Yep, riding it back to Michigan. ~630 miles. He’s leaving in about 6 hours, it will probably take about 11-1 2 hours to get home. I’m hoping the lack of windshield won’t beat him up too bad, unfortunately if he takes all back roads it’ll take him two days to get back, so he might be forced to deal with 70mph highway headwinds for a good chunk of the journey.

Hopefully it goes well. I’m not sure where you are in PA but I’m assuming he’ll be taking either I-80 or I-76 across the state. Either way it’s a long trip.

Back roads, or even just smaller highways, are great but it really makes the trip a lot longer.

I took a short interstate blast on an unfaired bike once. That’s all it took to convince me that a windscreen was a must-have item on any bike I owned.

Uh, if you compress the rear shock how easily does that slide off?

It is also ratchet strapped directly under the seat. The strap going through the peg mounts was mostly to keep it stable while the bike was on the side stand, leaned over, while we loaded it and crammed everything in.

So far I’ve found a decent full face helmet to be a good replacement for a windscreen. Plus if it’s vented properly you also basically get air conditioning!

I may change my mind on this when winter rolls around...

Either way, love the bike!!!!!

Nice! I’ve always liked those. No windscreen  isn’t that big of a deal. But 600 miles in one day on a bike is a lot. Totally doable but he's going to be ready for bed at the end!

No windscreen gets to be tiring after longer than an hour especially at 80+mph. Lots of stops is key.

He’s about halfway home now, 320 miles in. So far so good. Confirmed, bike will do in excess of 125, even with the big milk crate strapped to the back!
